Linda joined The Work Foundation as director of the Campaign for Leadership in January 2006. Previous roles include director of research and strategy at Roffey Park Management Institute, management development manager for American Express, various senior teaching positions and a spell in publishing.
Named as one of the Top 40 power players in Personnel by Personnel Today in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2005. Linda specialises in leadership development, the development of human resources professionals, organisational development/change management and executive coaching.
Her books, including Motivating People in Lean Organisations, (1997), Aligning HR and Business Strategy (1999 and 2001), The High Performance Organization (2005) and Understanding Change: theory, implementation and success (2005), are published by Butterworth-Heinemann.
She is chief editor of the Croner journal Developing HR Strategy, member of the editorial board for Strategic Change (Wiley), book series editor of The New Skills Portfolio and co-editor of The HR Series (both for Butterworth-Heinemann).
Charles Cotton is the CIPD’s reward expert. He has worked with some of the UK’s leading private, public and voluntary sector organisations to create a range of good practice reward products and diagnostic tools for HR practitioners. He manages the CIPD’s annual reward which shows the current trends and developments in UK pay and benefit practice. Charles’s area of expertise include: pensions, flexible benefits, short and long-term incentives, performance based pay and reward communication and education.
Charles recently led: research into the underlying links between reward and recognition and delivering excellent customer service (with the Institute of Customer Service); the creation of a good practice guide on communicating pensions; the development of a guide on how employers can help improve their employees’ understanding of their personal finances and the production of briefings on employee share plans and reward and diversity. He is currently heading a study on how front line managers make and communicate reward decisions to their employees and research into how employers will need to adapt their reward practices in light of demographic changes.
He frequently appears in the media commentating on reward and is often invited to present on his research at reward conferences and events.
Charles has a degree in economics from Aberystwyth University and a masters in HR from the London School of Economics. He is a chartered fellow of the CIPD and a lecturer in reward at Greenwich University.
Tom Russell is Director of Strategic Resourcing & Reward for Cancer Research UK, and has been with the charity since 2004, when he joined as Director of HR Operations. Tom is responsible for directing the organisation’s attraction and retention activities, and has recently led the development of the organisation’s reward philosophy and strategy, including the launch of a new benefits brand.
Tom has held senior HR positions in the automotive and retail sectors, and is a Fellow of both the CIPD and ILM.
