Chief Executive Officer - The Institute of Payroll Professionals
Maurice Cheng was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Payroll Professionals in August 2005. He has overall responsibility for the IPP Group, which encompasses professional membership, qualifications, training, policy research, publishing, consultancy and resourcing.
Maurice has a huge amount of experience in professional education, membership and marketing having previously held post as Director of Member Services for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), and more recently as CEO for the Institute of Healthcare Management (IHM). He played a pivotal role on strategy, membership services, publishing, training, and service re-branding in his time with these organisations.
He recognises the need to raise the standing of the professional status of both payroll and pensions, and is committed to developing the Institute to help do this.
Amongst his main objectives are the expansion of the Institute’s membership, improving services to individual members, and ensuring that the qualifications and professional support services are relevant to the increasing demands of employers and organisations in the UK. These are key to achieving the Institute’s publicly declared intention to acquiring Chartered status by 2010.
Alison Ward became a Director of the Institute of Payroll and Pensions in 2001, and served as IPPM Chair from 2003/2005. She is a past recipient of Payroll manager of the year award She was the first student to register for the IPPM Diploma, and one of the first to qualify for the Irish Diploma. She was also one of the first to qualify for the MSc in Business and Payroll Management, and now teaches the MSc in payroll, specializing in Inland Revenue relations, and also 'Mergers and Acquisitions'. She received recognition of her contributions towards education in payroll matters from the Institute in 2006.
During the last four years Alison has gained a reputation as a public speaker, attending several overseas conferences, She also teaches in America for the American Payroll Association training them about "Payroll Administration in the U.K."
Alison has had a 30-year career at C & J Clarks international, Ltd, where she was the Cashiers and Payroll Manager for over 14 years. She was responsible for payments to employees in the U.K., Isle of Man, and Jersey, plus expats based in several companies. This also included payment of expenses and benefits. She has recently spent nine months helping Clarks transfer to SAPHr software platform but on Sept 28th this year has left to begin working towards a PhD - on a payroll topic of course.
