How B&Q and Next reward their staff revealed at Employee Benefits Exhibition & Conference
August 2007
Karen Bates, group HR manager, Next Retail, and Janine Owen, divisional HR manager, B & Q, will share their experience at a specific conference session aimed atHR managers and compensation & benefits specialists within the retail sector.
Research suggests half of the UK's retail workforce is part-time, a third of the total workforce is aged 16-24 and there is an average staff turnover of 40% per annum - with sales assistants and retail cashiers seeing the highest turnover. Both Karen and Janine will demonstrate how Next and B&Q retain and reward, motivate, and communicate with, their key personnel - the employees who are on the shop floor.
Debi O'Donovan, editorial director, Employee Benefits said: "The retail sector is one of the largest employers in the UK, especially of staff on, or slightly above, the minimum wage. Therefore the leading employers in this sector have to be creative with the extra benefits they offer their workforces in order to attract and retain them."
Further topics to be addressed in the conference session, which takes place on 2 October 2007 at the Business Design Centre, Islington, will include: how a large retail store can effectively communicate with a diverse employee population? Can companies apply short term benefits to a more transient staff? How to engage with employees? And finally, how to develop and prove the direct links between employee engagement, customer experience and business results.
This session is free to attend exclusively for benefits/HR managers within the retail sector. To be invited please email: employee-benefits@centaur.co.uk
